Taste and See That Yahweh Is Good// 1 Samuel 21:8–15

Of David, when he pretended to be insane before Abimelech, so that the king drove him away.

1I will bless Yahweh at all times;

His praise will always be on my lips.

  • PS 34:1[TEXT]ABIMELECH. 1 Samuel 21:10 to 15 names the king of Gath Achish. Many think Abimelech was a royal title for Philistine kings, like Pharaoh in Egypt, Genesis 20:2 and 26:1.

2My soul boasts in Yahweh;

let the oppressed hear and rejoice.

3Magnify Yahweh with me;

let us exalt His name together.

4I sought Yahweh, and He answered me;

He delivered me from all my fears.

5Those who look to Him are radiant with joy;

their faces shall never be ashamed.

6This poor man called out, and Yahweh heard him;

He saved him from all his troubles.

7The angel of Yahweh encamps around those who fear Him,

and he delivers them.

  • PS 34:7[MIRACLE]The angel of Yahweh encamps around those who fear Him

8Taste and see that Yahweh is good;

blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him!

  • PS 34:8[ALLUDED TO]The New Testament refers to this → 1PE 2:3
  • PS 34:8[NOTABLE]Faith is not only something you think about. Try God for yourself.

9Fear Yahweh, you His saints,

for those who fear Him lack nothing.

10Young lions go lacking and hungry,

but those who seek Yahweh lack no good thing.

11Come, children, listen to me;

I will teach you the fear of Yahweh.

12Who is the man who delights in life,

who desires to see good days?

  • PS 34:12[QUOTED]Quoted in the New Testament → 1PE 3:10-12

13Keep your tongue from evil

and your lips from deceitful speech.

14Turn away from evil and do good;

seek peace and pursue it.

15The eyes of Yahweh are on the righteous,

and His ears are inclined to their cry.

16But the face of Yahweh is against those who do evil,

to wipe out all memory of them from the earth.

17The righteous cry out, and Yahweh hears;

He delivers them from all their troubles.

18Yahweh is near to the brokenhearted;

He saves the contrite in spirit.

  • PS 34:18[HEART]The Lord is near the brokenhearted.

19Many are the afflictions of the righteous,

but Yahweh delivers him from them all.

20He protects all his bones;

not one of them will be broken.

  • PS 34:20[PROPHECY]Not a bone of His body would be broken → JN 19:31-36
  • PS 34:20[QUOTED]Quoted in the New Testament → JN 19:36
  • PS 34:20[NOTE]NOT ONE BROKEN. John saw this when the soldiers did not break Jesus' legs, John 19:36.

21Evil will slay the wicked,

and the haters of the righteous will be condemned.

22Yahweh redeems His servants,

and none who take refuge in Him will be condemned.
