Do Not Rebuke Me in Your Anger// Psalm 38:1–22

For the choirmaster. With stringed instruments, according to Sheminith. A Psalm of David.

1O Yahweh, do not rebuke me in Your anger

or discipline me in Your wrath.

  • PS 6:1[NOTE]SHEMINITH may mean on the eighth, maybe an eight string instrument or a low octave. Many musical words in the titles are now a mystery.

2Be merciful to me, O Yahweh, for I am frail;

heal me, O Yahweh, for my bones are in agony.

3My soul is deeply distressed.

How long, O Yahweh, how long?

4Turn, O Yahweh, and deliver my soul;

save me because of Your loving devotion.

5For there is no mention of You in death;

who can praise You from Sheol?

6I am weary from groaning;

all night I flood my bed with weeping

and drench my couch with tears.

7My eyes fail from grief;

they grow dim because of all my foes.

8Depart from me, all you workers of iniquity,

for Yahweh has heard my weeping.

  • PS 6:8[ALLUDED TO]The New Testament refers to this → LK 13:27

9Yahweh has heard my cry for mercy;

Yahweh accepts my prayer.

10All my enemies will be ashamed and dismayed;

they will turn back in sudden disgrace.

Frequently asked questions

What is TOM?

TOM is The Owner's Manual, a free translation built on the Berean Standard Bible. It uses modern measurements, prints Yahweh where the Hebrew has God's name, and puts words missing from the earliest manuscripts in [square brackets]. Every change is listed in How It Was Translated.

What do the colors mean?

Each color marks one kind of verse: lime green for prophecies about the Messiah, teal for miracles, sand for archaeology, and so on. Tap any color in the chapter key to turn it off. Use Customize to choose exactly which ones you see.

Can I read without highlights?

Yes. Turn off the Highlights switch at the top for plain text. Your choice is remembered on this device.

Do the other translations have the colors too?

Yes. The colors, red letters, bloodline names and study notes come from TOM and are matched to every other translation verse by verse, so you can read the KJV, NIV or any other translation here with the same study helps.

Is this free?

Yes. The whole Bible is free to read online. The printed Owner's Manual Study Bible is coming soon.
