How Majestic Is Your Name!

For the choirmaster. According to Gittith. A Psalm of David.

1O Yahweh, our Lord,

how majestic is Your name in all the earth!

You have set Your glory

above the heavens.

2From the mouths of children and infants

You have ordained praise

on account of Your adversaries,

to silence the enemy and avenger.

  • PS 8:2[PROPHECY]From the mouths of infants He would perfect His praise → MT 21:16
  • PS 8:2[QUOTED]Quoted in the New Testament → MT 21:16
  • PS 8:2[NOTE]OUT OF THE MOUTHS OF BABES. Jesus quoted this when children shouted Hosanna in the temple and the leaders got angry, Matthew 21:16.

3When I behold Your heavens,

the work of Your fingers,

the moon and the stars,

which You have set in place—

4what is man that You are mindful of him,

or the son of man that You care for him?

  • PS 8:4[PROPHECY]The son of man God cares for → HEB 2:6-9
  • PS 8:4[QUOTED]Quoted in the New Testament → HEB 2:6-8

5You made him a little lower than the angels;

You crowned him with glory and honor.

  • PS 8:5[PROPHECY]His humiliation followed by exaltation → HEB 2:6-9
  • PS 8:5[TEXT]ANGELS. The Hebrew word is elohim, which usually means God. The Greek Old Testament says angels, and Hebrews 2:7 quotes it that way about Jesus. Some Bibles say a little lower than God.

6You made him ruler of the works of Your hands;

You have placed everything under his feet:

  • PS 8:6[QUOTED]Quoted in the New Testament → 1CO 15:25-27
  • PS 8:6[ALLUDED TO]The New Testament refers to this → EPH 1:22

7all sheep and oxen,

and even the beasts of the field,

8the birds of the air and the fish of the sea,

all that swim the paths of the seas.

9O Yahweh, our Lord,

how majestic is Your name in all the earth!

Frequently asked questions

What is TOM?

TOM is The Owner's Manual, a free translation built on the Berean Standard Bible. It uses modern measurements, prints Yahweh where the Hebrew has God's name, and puts words missing from the earliest manuscripts in [square brackets]. Every change is listed in How It Was Translated.

What do the colors mean?

Each color marks one kind of verse: lime green for prophecies about the Messiah, teal for miracles, sand for archaeology, and so on. Tap any color in the chapter key to turn it off. Use Customize to choose exactly which ones you see.

Can I read without highlights?

Yes. Turn off the Highlights switch at the top for plain text. Your choice is remembered on this device.

Do the other translations have the colors too?

Yes. The colors, red letters, bloodline names and study notes come from TOM and are matched to every other translation verse by verse, so you can read the KJV, NIV or any other translation here with the same study helps.

Is this free?

Yes. The whole Bible is free to read online. The printed Owner's Manual Study Bible is coming soon.
