An End to Idolatry

1“On that day a fountain will be opened to the house of David and the people of Jerusalem, to cleanse them from sin and impurity. 2And on that day, declares Yahweh of Hosts, I will erase the names of the idols from the land, and they will no longer be remembered. I will also remove the prophets and the spirit of impurity from the land.

  • ZECH 13:1[PROPHECY]In that day a fountain shall be opened for the house of David and inhabitants of Jerusalem, for sin and for uncleanness → JN 19:34; 1JN 1:7; 1JN 5:6
  • ZECH 13:1[NOTE]A FOUNTAIN. For sin and impurity. Many see the blood and water from Jesus' side, John 19:34.
  • ZECH 13:2[DEMONIC]God will erase the names of idols from the land

3And if anyone still prophesies, his father and mother who bore him will say to him, ‘You shall not remain alive, because you have spoken falsely in the name of Yahweh.’ When he prophesies, his father and mother who bore him will pierce him through.

4And on that day every prophet who prophesies will be ashamed of his vision, and he will not put on a hairy cloak in order to deceive. 5He will say, ‘I am not a prophet; I work the land, for I was purchased as a servant in my youth.’ 6If someone asks him, ‘What are these wounds on your chest?’ he will answer, ‘These are the wounds I received in the house of my friends.’

  • ZECH 13:6[NOTE]THESE WOUNDS. In context a false prophet explains his cuts, 1 Kings 18:28. Some older Christian writers applied it to Jesus' wounds.

The Shepherd Struck, the Sheep Scattered// Matthew 26:31–35; Mark 14:27–31

7Awake, O sword, against My Shepherd,

against the man who is My Companion,

declares Yahweh of Hosts.

Strike the Shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered,

and I will turn My hand against the little ones.

  • ZECH 13:7[PROPHECY]The Shepherd would be struck and the sheep would scatter → MT 26:31; MT 26:56; MK 14:27
  • ZECH 13:7[QUOTED]Quoted in the New Testament → MT 26:31
  • ZECH 13:7[QUOTED]Quoted in the New Testament → MK 14:27
  • ZECH 13:7[NOTE]STRIKE THE SHEPHERD. Jesus quoted this the night He was arrested, Matthew 26:31, so it prints in italics. God calls the Shepherd My Companion, the man who stands next to Me.

8And in all the land,

declares Yahweh,

two-thirds will be cut off and perish,

but a third will be left in it.

  • ZECH 13:8[PROPHECY]Two-thirds of the land shall be cut off and die, but one-third shall be left; I will bring them through fire and refine them → STILL TO COME

9This third I will bring through the fire;

I will refine them like silver

and test them like gold.

They will call on My name,

and I will answer them.

I will say, ‘They are My people,’

and they will say, ‘Yahweh is our God.’”
