The Vision of Joshua the High Priest

1Then the angel showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of Yahweh, with Satan standing at his right hand to accuse him.

  • ZECH 3:1[DEMONIC]Satan stands to accuse Joshua the high priest
  • ZECH 3:1[NOTE]SATAN. In Hebrew, the satan, the accuser. See Who Is the Satan in Job?, Job.

2And Yahweh said to Satan: “Yahweh rebukes you, Satan! Indeed, Yahweh, who has chosen Jerusalem, rebukes you! Is not this man a firebrand snatched from the fire?”

  • ZECH 3:2[ALLUDED TO]The New Testament refers to this → JUDE 1:9
  • ZECH 3:2[ALLUDED TO]The New Testament refers to this → JUDE 1:23
  • ZECH 3:2[NOTE]A REBUKE FOR SATAN. Jude 9 has Michael say The Lord rebuke you. The firebrand is Joshua, and the people with him, pulled out of the fire of exile. Amos 4:11 uses the same picture.

3Now Joshua was dressed in filthy garments as he stood before the angel. 4So the angel said to those standing before him, “Take off his filthy clothes!”

Then he said to Joshua, “See, I have removed your iniquity, and I will clothe you with splendid robes.”

  • ZECH 3:4[FORESHADOW]Joshua the high priest had his filthy clothes removed and was dressed in clean robes → 2CO 5:21MEDIUM
  • ZECH 3:4[NOTE]CLEAN CLOTHES. A picture of sins taken away and a righteousness that is given, not earned, Isaiah 61:10.

5Then I said, “Let them put a clean turban on his head.” So a clean turban was placed on his head, and they clothed him, as the angel of Yahweh stood by.

6Then the angel of Yahweh gave this charge to Joshua: 7“This is what Yahweh of Hosts says: ‘If you walk in My ways and keep My instructions, then you will govern My house and will also have charge of My courts; and I will give you a place among these who are standing here.

8Hear now, O high priest Joshua, you and your companions seated before you, who are indeed a sign. For behold, I am going to bring My servant, the Branch. 9See the stone I have set before Joshua; on that one stone are seven eyes. Behold, I will engrave on it an inscription, declares Yahweh of Hosts, and I will remove the iniquity of this land in a single day. 10On that day, declares Yahweh of Hosts, you will each invite your neighbor to sit under your own vine and fig tree.’”

  • ZECH 3:8[PROPHECY]Behold, I am bringing forth My Servant the BRANCH; upon one stone are seven eyes → HEB 10:10; HEB 10:12; HEB 10:14
  • ZECH 3:8[NOTE]MY SERVANT, THE BRANCH. See Who Is the Branch?
  • ZECH 3:9[NOTE]SEVEN EYES. Seven means complete. The same seven eyes of Yahweh scan the whole earth in 4:10.
